All tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, chillies and spices sold in Tomatens Hus Butik are grown in our own greenhouses. The cultivation is about 8000 m2 in size and is heated with wood pellets.

Already in December, the tomato plants were sown in our seed chamber. It is warm and good, about 24 degrees around the clock and bright. After two weeks, the plants are moved to the greenhouse, where they are replanted in a larger pot and get a little more space. Even there, they get extra light because the winter light in Sweden is not enough for the plants to be strong and healthy.

Five weeks old, the tomato plants are ready to move out into the "real" greenhouse where they grow in buckets with pumice. They are tied up to get support and now they start to grow for real, between 20 and 25 cm a week. Water and nutrients are added continuously and all excess water is recovered and recycled back into the fertilizer mixer where it is mixed with fresh water and returned to the cultivation. The greenhouses are heated with wood pellets.

No chemical pesticides are used in our cultivation, all pest control is done biologically, which in this case is done with other small insects that either eat the mite or parasitize its eggs or larvae. This is perfect for us because we also have bumblebees in the greenhouse that pollinate the tomato flowers.
